App Troubleshooting

Note: It makes a lot of sense to use a second (cost-effective) smartphone just for Regatta Hero. See this blog post about the Pixel 5.

If you have not received your club's login information from your raceofficer use the following information to test the tracking function:

If you have problems logging into Regatta Hero, please check the following:

A cellular connection must be available.
Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged.
Check that the organization and passcode are entered correctly.
Login should always happen outdoors (due to GPS).
Make sure GPS and activity-tracker permissions are set to “Always allow”.
If issues persist, close the app from memory and restart it.
In case of doubt, uninstall and reinstall the app.
If position data jumps on Android, turn off "Improve Location Accuracy" in the Android Location Settings. More background info can be found here.
On Android, normal and exaggerated energy-saving modes often prevent GPS tracking. For Android smartphones please read the special Troubleshooting Chapterin the online manual.
If countdown issues arise on Android, this could be due to the problem mentioned above. See a solution by using a Pixel 5 (100-200 Euros).

General Tips:

The app sends GPS data only when the smartphone is sencing acceleration. Wear it on your upper body or arm. For dinghies, catamarans, etc., store it under or in your life jacket in a waterproof bag.
Don’t forget to set media volume to maximum!
Do not place the smartphone in the cabin or on the cockpit floor.
Certain smartphones disable GPS in battery-saving mode. Disable any settings related to this. See more details here.
A great solution is to buy a separate smartphone for tracking, for around 100-200 Euros. For example, this one.
A separate smartphone with a cheap data plan can solve many issues, such as privacy concerns, damage risks, or theft.
