The following data protection principles apply to the use of the Regatta Hero App. They supplement the general data protection regulations of the Regatta Hero System in their current version. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously. On this page, we describe how we handle your data processed in the Regatta Hero App. For questions or requests for information, please use the contact option provided below.

Principles for Processing Personal Data
The Regatta Hero App processes no personal data apart from the name or names of the crew on board, the sail number, the name and position of the boat.
Installation and Permissions
Depending on your operating system and the permissions system in place, the Regatta Hero App requires specific permissions to function fully. You will be explicitly informed of the permissions required during installation or the first use of the functions. You can decide whether to grant specific permissions for using certain functions.
Your location data is not stored or shared with third parties.
Data Storage
The app stores the following data on the device: Settings made, as well as received server contents (start sequence, regatta status). The app uses local storage to save this data. Please note that additional permissions may be necessary depending on the operating system. No access to your personal data occurs.
During the regatta, the data is temporarily stored on the server but is deleted after a maximum of 3 weeks. The general data protection rules of the Regatta Hero System are adhered to.
You can request the deletion of your data at any time.

Collection of Location Data in Foreground and Background Operation
As a user of our Regatta Hero App, you can participate in regattas of the Regatta Hero System. If you have granted the app permission, it will use the location information from the smartphone. Location transmission is a necessary functionality of the Regatta Hero App. Only with location data can the system determine the boat's position during the regatta and display it in the system (e.g., map display). The map shows the name of the crew (team), the sail number, the name of the boat, and the GPS position.
Collecting location data in the background is necessary because the app is carried in the pocket of a life jacket by sailors (e.g., dinghy or catamaran sailors), which usually displays the lock screen.
Collecting location data in the background is also necessary if a sailor (e.g., on a large boat) uses another app during the regatta. In this case, it must be ensured that the boat's location data is continuously sent to the Regatta Hero System in the background.
When the regatta is over and the user ends the tracking in the app (switch), no location data is sent.
Usage Statistics
No usage statistics are kept in the app.
Participant Data
For a participant to take part in a regatta, the regatta management needs the following data:
- Type of boat
- Name(s) (e.g., a nickname) of the crew
- Yardstick of the boat (or Texel or SCHRS rating)
- Sail number of the boat
- Club affiliation of the boat
- Latitude and longitude of the boat
This data is necessary for the boat and crew to be identified during the regatta and included in the regatta rankings, and for spectators to know which boats are on the regatta course.
Legal Basis for Processing
The processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR to safeguard the legitimate interests of the Regatta Hero operator in enabling you as a user of our Regatta Hero App to participate in Regatta Hero regattas.
There is a right to access the relevant personal data (Art. 15 GDPR) as well as to correction (Art. 16 GDPR) or deletion (Art. 17 GDPR) or restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) or a right to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR) and a right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) according to the statutory data protection regulations.
Right to Lodge a Complaint
According to Art. 77 GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, particularly in the member state of your residence, your workplace, or the place of the alleged infringement, if you believe that the processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR, without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy.
